Myanmar Earthquake Response
A 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit near Mandalay in central Myanmar on Friday, March 28, at 12:50 PM local time. Rescuers are now reaching the towns and villages affected in the Sagaing region. Many buildings have collapsed or suffered significant damage, and traumatised people are sleeping outside. The Government has been coordinating international efforts to rescue those trapped under the rubble and provide emergency aid.
The latest estimates indicate that over 4,000 people have died, and at least 6,000 have suffered injuries. The worst-affected towns are Mandalay, Naypyidaw, and Sagaing City. As relief workers reach more locations, experts expect these numbers to rise. Even Bangkok and parts of Thailand felt the earthquake.
